Four weeks to build on Cashu

Nut November is a community hackathon for Cashu, the open-source ecash protocol for Bitcoin. From November 1 to 27, developers, designers and writers build wallets, mints, tools and guides, and the best work wins sats.

Start a project or contribute to one that exists. Code, design and docs all count, and first-timers have a prize of their own.

The prizes

Five community prizes and a special Value4Value track, paid in sats. OpenCash put up 400,000 and Nodesignal added 400,000 for their track. Every donation grows the pool. It's at so far.

How it works

  1. Pick a project

    Find a Cashu project on GitHub to contribute to, or start your own. No idea is too nutty.

  2. Build it

    Make a new tool, improve an existing one, or fix the bug that's been driving you nuts.

  3. Share your progress

    Post updates on Nostr or X with #NutNovember so the community can follow along. Follow on Nostr or post on X

  4. Submit by Nov 27

    Send your project in by November 27 at 23:59 UTC. Open the submission form

Questions

  • No. Designers, writers and community builders are all welcome. If you can contribute to Cashu in any way, you're in.

  • Submit it anyway. Half-cracked nuts are still nuts, and progress counts for more than polish.

  • Yes. It's a real hackathon with real prizes, but we don't take ourselves too seriously.

  • Because Cashu. And 'No Nut November' exists, so we're flipping it and going nuts for ecash.

  • Cashu is a Chaumian ecash protocol for Bitcoin. It's private, works offline, and is backed by bitcoin: digital cash with real privacy.

  • Yes, as many as you can build, as long as each one stands on its own.

  • Perfect time to start. Read the docs, join the community and dive in. There's a prize just for first-time contributors.
